Winners Supermarket is looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Market Vendor & Customer Engagement Specialist to manage a dedicated stall within our Malherbes, Curepipe location. This unique role goes beyond traditional retail; it involves curating a vibrant display of specialty items, fresh fruits, vegetables, or artisanal products, and acting as a brand ambassador for Winners.
As a Market Vendor, you will be the face of our specialty offering, directly interacting with customers, understanding their needs, and providing personalized recommendations. You will be responsible for the daily setup and breakdown of your stall, ensuring it is always visually appealing, well-stocked, and impeccably clean. Key Responsibilities
- Set up and arrange attractive and engaging product displays at the market stall daily, adhering to visual merchandising guidelines.
- Actively engage with customers, providing comprehensive product information, offering samples (where applicable), and assisting with selections to enhance their shopping experience.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using POS systems, handling cash and card payments with precision.
- Maintain optimal stock levels, conduct regular inventory checks, and communicate reordering needs to ensure continuous product availability.
- Ensure the market stall is clean, organized, and adheres to all hygiene, food safety, and general safety standards at all times.
- Monitor product quality and freshness diligently, removing damaged or expired items promptly to uphold Winners' quality standards.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and efficiently, striving for first-call resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Meet and exceed daily and weekly sales targets through proactive selling techniques and excellent customer service.
- Provide regular reports on sales performance, customer feedback trends, and stock movement to management for informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with the store management team to identify popular products, evaluate new offerings, and develop innovative merchandising strategies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 6 months in direct customer service, retail sales, or a similar customer-facing role.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal) to build rapport with diverse customers.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in product presentation and inventory management.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage a dedicated stall with minimal supervision.
- Basic numeracy and practical experience with cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (up to 15 kg), and perform daily setup/breakdown duties.
- Proficiency in English and Mauritian Creole to effectively communicate with a broad customer base.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a market vendor, produce seller, or in a similar direct sales role within a food environment.
- In-depth knowledge of local Mauritian produce, food items, and their seasonality.
- Proficiency in French is a significant advantage for engaging with a wider demographic.
- A valid Food Handler's Certificate or a willingness to obtain one promptly upon employment.
