Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Animal Lab Technician to join our innovative research team in Tiergarten, Berlin. This crucial full-time role involves providing essential care and support for our laboratory animals, ensuring their welfare, and assisting researchers in vital scientific experiments. As an Animal Lab Technician, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining our high standards of animal husbandry and ethical research practices. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily care and husbandry of laboratory animals (primarily rodents), including feeding, watering, cage changes, and environmental enrichment.
- Monitor animal health and welfare closely, identifying and reporting any changes in behavior, health status, or appearance to veterinary staff and researchers.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of animal health, experimental procedures, colony management, and environmental parameters.
- Assist researchers with various experimental procedures, including animal handling, injections, sample collection, and post-procedural monitoring.
- Ensure strict adherence to all animal welfare regulations, institutional policies, and established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, animal housing units, and procedure areas.
- Manage animal colony breeding, weaning, and identification according to research protocols.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, feed, and bedding, and assist with ordering when necessary.
- Participate in facility maintenance, sanitation, and safety checks to ensure a clean and compliant working environment.
Required Skills
- Vocational training or degree as an Animal Caretaker (Tierpfleger), Biologisch-technische/r Assistent/in (BTA), Medizinisch-technische/r Assistent/in (MTA), or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience working with laboratory animals, preferably rodents, in a research or similar setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of German animal welfare laws (Tierschutzgesetz) and associated regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to follow protocols meticulously and maintain accurate, detailed records.
- Strong observational skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing animal welfare concerns.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with proficiency in both German and English.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification according to FELASA B or C guidelines.
- Experience with specific animal models or advanced experimental techniques (e.g., genotyping, behavioral testing).
- Familiarity with facility management software for animal colonies.
