As the Night Shift Dementia Care Lead Supervisor, you will be the cornerstone of our evening and early morning care provision. Your primary responsibility will be to meticulously oversee all aspects of care delivery, ensuring that our residents receive the highest standard of support tailored to their individual needs and preferences. This demanding yet deeply rewarding role requires a leader who is not only clinically proficient but also possesses an innate ability to inspire, guide, and support their team through effective supervision and mentorship. You will ensure that care plans are rigorously followed, that all CQC regulations are adhered to, and that a calm, reassuring, and respectful environment is maintained.
Your nights will involve leading by example, actively participating in care delivery when necessary, including personal care, mobility support, and medication administration. You will be the first point of contact for night staff, providing immediate guidance and making critical decisions in response to any incidents or changes in a resident’s condition. Effective communication with day shift colleagues and external healthcare professionals will be crucial to ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of night shift operations, ensuring high standards of person-centred dementia care.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of night care assistants, fostering a supportive and professional working environment.
- Implement and review individualised care plans, adapting to residents' evolving needs and preferences during the night.
- Respond effectively and calmly to emergencies, critical incidents, and challenging behaviours.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date care records and daily logs.
- Liaise with day shift supervisors, families, and external healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and consistency of care.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment that respects the dignity and independence of all residents.
- Safely and accurately administer medication in accordance with company policies and CQC guidelines.
- Conduct regular welfare checks, assist with personal care, and ensure the comfort and well-being of residents.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and contribute to care planning and service improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in dementia care, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or team leader role.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and delegation abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, essential for interacting with residents, families, and staff.
- Proficiency in administering medication and understanding of associated protocols.
- Ability to handle challenging situations and emergencies calmly and effectively.
- Deep understanding of CQC regulations, safeguarding, and best practices in care.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient approach to care.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification).
- Current First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 4 or Diploma in Health and Social Care.
- Advanced training or certifications in dementia care, palliative care, or challenging behaviours.
- Experience with electronic care planning and record-keeping systems.
- Previous experience specifically working night shifts in a care setting.
- Full UK driving license.
