Career.zycto is excited to be recruiting on behalf of a prominent client seeking a dedicated and experienced Hydrographic Surveyor to join their dynamic team in Köpenick, Berlin. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to essential marine projects, leveraging advanced technology to map and understand underwater environments. As a Hydrographic Surveyor, you will be instrumental in collecting, processing, and interpreting hydrographic data crucial for navigation safety, port development, offshore construction, environmental monitoring, and research purposes.
Your role will involve a blend of field-based operations and office-based data analysis. You’ll operate state-of-the-art surveying equipment, including multibeam and single-beam echo sounders, side-scan sonars, magnetometers, and GPS/GNSS systems, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and data integrity. This position requires a professional who is not only technically adept but also possesses a strong problem-solving mindset and excellent communication skills. You will work closely with project managers, marine engineers, geologists, and other specialists, often as part of a multi-disciplinary team, both on land and at sea. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and supervise hydrographic surveys in accordance with international standards (e.g., IHO) and project specifications.
- Operate and maintain a wide range of hydrographic survey equipment, including multibeam echo sounders, side-scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, and GNSS systems.
- Perform calibration and quality control checks on survey instruments and data.
- Process, analyze, and interpret hydrographic data using specialized software (e.g., QINSy, Hypack, Caris HIPS/SIPS).
- Create and review bathymetric charts, seafloor maps, digital terrain models (DTMs), and other geospatial products.
- Prepare comprehensive survey reports, documentation, and technical deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during all field operations.
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other team members to define project requirements and deliver timely, accurate results.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and provide technical support as needed.
- Participate in vessel mobilization and demobilization activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Oceanography, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience as a Hydrographic Surveyor.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining modern hydrographic survey equipment (e.g., multibeam, single-beam, side-scan sonar).
- Expertise in hydrographic data acquisition, processing, and interpretation software (e.g., QINSy, Hypack, Caris HIPS/SIPS).
- Strong understanding of geodesy, positioning systems (GPS/GNSS), and tidal theory.
- Familiarity with IHO standards and guidelines (e.g., S-44).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, often in challenging marine environments.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- IHO Category A or B certification.
- Experience with offshore renewable energy projects, cable routing, or dredging surveys.
- Proficiency in German language.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Basic knowledge of marine geology or geophysics.
