Job Description

As a Palliative Care Supervisor for the Night Shift at our esteemed partner facility in Richmond upon Thames, you will play a pivotal role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care during a critical time for patients and their families. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the night shift palliative care team, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
  • Manage and respond to acute symptom management, emergencies, and end-of-life care needs during the night.
  • Offer emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care, observations, and interventions.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for night staff, providing guidance, support, and clinical advice.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, allied health professionals, and day shift supervisors.
  • Participate in the training, mentoring, and professional development of junior staff members.
  • Uphold all relevant clinical policies, procedures, and CQC regulations.
  • Report on patient status, incidents, and operational concerns to the day management team.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (NMC registration essential)
  • Significant experience in palliative care, oncology, or end-of-life care
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience within a healthcare setting
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Profound empathy, compassion, and sensitivity
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage challenging situations effectively
  • Proficiency in administering and managing pain relief and symptom control
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding and clinical governance principles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualification in Palliative Care, Oncology, or a related field
  • Experience working in a hospice or specialist palliative care unit
  • Formal leadership or management training
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in palliative care
  • Experience with electronic patient record systems
