Job Description
A Customs Officer for Border Operations at Isiolo County plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Kenya’s borders. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of cargo, baggage, and conveyances crossing the border to detect prohibited or restricted goods.
- Verify authenticity and accuracy of customs declarations, permits, and other supporting documentation.
- Assess and collect appropriate customs duties, taxes, and fees in accordance with national laws and regulations.
- Identify, investigate, and apprehend individuals or entities involved in smuggling, fraud, and other customs offenses.
- Operate and interpret results from detection equipment such as X-ray scanners, metal detectors, and other screening technologies.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, and international partners on joint operations and information sharing.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare detailed reports, and manage evidence related to seizures and investigations.
- Provide accurate information and guidance to traders and the public regarding customs procedures and requirements.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and operational guidelines in a high-security border environment.
- Participate in training programs and continuous professional development to stay updated on customs laws, techniques, and threats.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of customs and excise laws, regulations, and procedures (Kenya Revenue Authority guidelines preferred).
