Are you a highly observant and detail-oriented individual with a passion for technology and ensuring system reliability? Central 1 Credit Union is seeking a dedicated IT System Monitoring Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive IT Operations team. In this fully remote role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the stability and performance of our critical IT infrastructure and applications that support hundreds of credit unions across Canada. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced financial technology environment, contributing directly to the seamless operation of vital banking systems.
As an IT System Monitoring Assistant, you will be the first line of defense, proactively identifying and responding to potential issues before they impact our members and their clients. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve diligently monitoring various systems, networks, and applications using a suite of advanced monitoring tools. You’ll analyze alerts, dashboards, and reports to detect anomalies, performance bottlenecks, and potential outages. When issues arise, you’ll be responsible for initial triage, documenting findings, and escalating critical incidents to the appropriate support teams. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a methodical approach to problem-solving, and excellent communication skills to articulate technical information clearly.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor IT systems, networks, and applications using a variety of monitoring tools and dashboards to detect anomalies and potential issues.
- Respond promptly to alerts and notifications, performing initial troubleshooting and impact assessment.
- Document incidents thoroughly, including steps taken, observations, and relevant data for escalation.
- Escalate critical incidents to senior IT staff or specialized support teams in accordance with established procedures.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure timely resolution of system issues and minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of system performance, incidents, and resolutions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of monitoring processes and tools.
- Participate in on-call rotation as required to provide 24/7 monitoring coverage.
- Adhere strictly to security policies and operational best practices.
- Provide regular status updates on system health and ongoing incidents to stakeholders.
Required Skills
- 1+ years of experience in an IT support, operations, or monitoring role.
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure components (servers, networks, databases).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Splunk, Zabbix, PRTG).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to changing environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in a financial services or other regulated industry.
- Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and incident management processes.
