Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Marine Technician specializing in boat repair for a leading client in Voi, Taita-Taveta County. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join a team committed to excellence in marine vessel maintenance and repair. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of boats, ranging from small leisure craft to commercial vessels. You will work on various systems including propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, and navigation, ensuring all repairs meet the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. This role demands a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering top-quality workmanship. You will be expected to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and execute both minor and major repairs, adhering strictly to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical issues in marine engines, hull systems, and related components.
- Execute repairs and maintenance on outboard, inboard, and stern drive engines (diesel and petrol).
- Inspect, repair, and replace electrical systems, including wiring, navigation equipment, and charging systems.
- Conduct hull repair and maintenance, including fiberglass, gel coat, and structural work.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic steering systems, trim tabs, and other hydraulic components.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on various marine vessels to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Order and maintain an inventory of necessary parts and supplies.
- Document all repairs, maintenance, and service performed accurately and thoroughly.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations in the workshop and on vessels.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians or apprentices as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Marine Technician or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of marine engine systems (diesel and petrol) and troubleshooting techniques.
- Proficiency in marine electrical systems, wiring, and diagnostic tools.
- Experience with fiberglass repair, gel coat application, and hull maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or diploma in Marine Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with specific engine brands (e.g., Yamaha, Mercury, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar).
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Proficiency in using marine diagnostic software.
