Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with essential daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and safe mobility.
  • Support nurses by accurately taking, recording, and monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
  • Provide assistance with patient feeding, ensuring all dietary needs and restrictions are precisely met.
  • Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and hygienic patient environment, including tidying rooms and changing bed linens.
  • Assist with safe patient transportation within the hospital using appropriate equipment like wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Observe, monitor, and promptly report any significant changes in patient condition, behavior, or complaints to the nursing staff.
  • Respond promptly and compassionately to patient call lights and requests.
  • Document all care activities accurately and thoroughly in patient records as per established hospital protocols.
  • Ensure medical supplies are adequately stocked and readily accessible in patient rooms and throughout ward areas.
  • Adhere strictly to all infection control policies, patient safety procedures, and hospital regulations.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (CXC/CSEC passes preferred, especially in English and a science subject).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A genuinely compassionate, patient-centered, and empathetic approach to care.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks requiring prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
  • Strong willingness to learn new skills and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service role or any environment requiring direct interaction and support for the public.
  • Basic computer literacy for electronic health record documentation and general administrative tasks.
  • Certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – training can be provided post-hire if not currently possessed.
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology.
