As a Groundskeeper specializing in Park & Facility Maintenance, you will be instrumental in the upkeep and enhancement of diverse landscapes. Your daily tasks will involve a comprehensive range of horticultural and general maintenance duties, crucial for sustaining the health and appearance of lawns, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and hardscaped areas. This includes everything from precision mowing and expert trimming to diligent weeding and effective pest management. You will be responsible for the year-round care of our grounds, adapting your work to the changing seasons, which could involve leaf clearing in autumn or minor snow removal during winter months.
This role demands not just physical aptitude but also a solid understanding of plant care, seasonal maintenance schedules, and the ability to operate various landscaping equipment safely and effectively. You’ll be entrusted with using mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other essential tools, requiring a commitment to safety protocols and routine equipment maintenance. Beyond the core horticultural tasks, you’ll also contribute to the overall facility presentation, which might include litter removal, cleaning pathways, and undertaking minor repairs to site furniture like benches or fencing. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding.
- Cultivate and maintain flowerbeds, shrubberies, and trees through planting, pruning, and watering.
- Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
- Ensure all pathways, common areas, and facilities are clean, tidy, and free from litter and debris.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on outdoor furniture, fences, and fixtures as needed.
- Implement pest and disease control measures for plants and turf when required, adhering to safety guidelines.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering schedules and system functionality.
- Carry out seasonal tasks such as leaf clearing, snow removal, and preparing grounds for different weather conditions.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and the public.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Groundskeeper or in a similar landscaping role.
- Demonstrable knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care, and seasonal maintenance.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of grounds presentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Basic problem-solving skills for minor equipment issues or grounds challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant horticultural qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture).
- Certification in pesticide application (e.g., PA1/PA6).
- Full UK Driving License with a clean record.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with tree care and arboricultural practices.
