Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design of civil infrastructure projects, including highways, roads, drainage, and associated utilities.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and risk assessments for new and existing infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and reports using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK standards, regulations, and health and safety legislation.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and local authorities throughout project lifecycle, from concept to completion.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Manage project budgets, resources, and schedules to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in tender preparation, evaluation, and contract negotiation processes.
  • Identify and implement innovative engineering solutions to enhance project efficiency, sustainability, and resilience.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrable experience in civil engineering, with a strong focus on infrastructure and road construction projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other relevant design software.
  • Solid understanding of UK design standards, codes, and specifications (e.g., DMRB, MCHW).
  • Proven experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE) or working towards it.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software (e.g., MicroDrainage) and transport modelling software (e.g., MXROAD).
  • Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and NEC forms of contract.
  • Experience working on public sector projects within the UK.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design principles and environmental impact assessments.
