Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, portioning, and plating of meals according to patient dietary requirements and established menus.
  • Deliver meals and beverages to patients in their rooms, ensuring accuracy and providing courteous service.
  • Interact with patients to confirm meal choices, address simple requests, and report any dietary concerns or refusals to nursing staff.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, dining areas, and all food service equipment.
  • Operate and clean dishwashers, washing dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure safety standards are met during storage, preparation, and serving.
  • Restock supplies in patient kitchenettes and meal service areas as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety guidelines, hospital policies, and health regulations.
  • Assist in inventory management by reporting shortages or damaged items.
  • Collaborate effectively with the dietary team, nurses, and other hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dietary supervisor.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 20 lbs), and push/pull carts throughout a shift.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a customer service role, hospitality, or any kitchen environment.
  • Basic proficiency in Swahili is highly beneficial for patient interaction.
  • Possession of a Food Handler's permit or certificate.
