Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our partners’ academic projects in Samburu County, Kenya. This full-time, on-site role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant research initiatives focused on local development, conservation, public health, or socio-economic studies within the vibrant community of Samburu. As a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the entire research lifecycle, from assisting with literature reviews and data collection to preliminary analysis and report drafting. You will work closely with lead researchers and project managers, providing essential support to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of academic endeavors that aim to generate impactful insights and inform policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and synthesize relevant academic sources.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of research instruments (e.g., surveys, interview guides).
  • Coordinate and conduct fieldwork, including data collection through interviews, focus groups, and observations within Samburu County.
  • Manage, organize, and maintain research databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Perform preliminary data analysis using statistical software or qualitative analysis techniques.
  • Support the drafting and editing of research reports, papers, presentations, and other academic outputs.
  • Prepare and submit applications for ethical review and ensure compliance with all research protocols.
  • Assist in project administration, including scheduling meetings, managing timelines, and preparing progress reports.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including community members, local authorities, and research partners.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions for research design and methodology.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (at least 1 year) in a research assistant role or similar academic support position.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data collection tools and techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and organize large datasets.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications
