Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive installation, configuration, and routine maintenance of computer hardware, peripherals, and network devices across various operational sites.
  • Efficiently diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues, providing timely and effective solutions to minimize operational downtime and maximize productivity.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on all assigned IT equipment, ensuring optimal performance, extending asset lifespan, and proactively addressing potential failures.
  • Execute repair or replacement of faulty hardware components, including motherboards, memory modules, hard drives, power supplies, network cards, and other critical parts.
  • Maintain precise and up-to-date inventory records of all IT hardware, components, and spare parts, ensuring accurate asset tracking and efficient stock management.
  • Provide expert technical support to end-users on hardware-related queries and issues, offering assistance both remotely and through on-site visits.
  • Assist with the structured deployment and secure decommissioning of IT equipment, strictly adhering to company policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
  • Actively collaborate with the broader IT team and cross-functional departments to resolve complex technical challenges and contribute to continuous system improvements.
  • Ensure all work activities strictly adhere to established safety protocols, industry best practices, and Vodacom’s quality standards.
  • Thoroughly document all repairs, maintenance activities, technical procedures, and solutions in the designated IT service management system.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience of at least 3 years as an IT Hardware Technician or in a similar hands-on technical support role.
  • Strong, in-depth knowledge of computer hardware components, including CPUs, RAM, storage devices, motherboards, and network interface cards.
  • Exceptional proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware faults in desktops, laptops, servers, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with various operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and their integration with diverse hardware platforms.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, LAN, WAN) and practical experience with common network hardware.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, coupled with a highly methodical and analytical approach to fault finding and resolution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment (e.g., servers, monitors) safely and efficiently.
  • Possession of a valid Mozambican driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
  • Direct experience with enterprise-level server hardware and advanced storage solutions (e.g., RAID configurations, SAN/NAS).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT asset management best practices and lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with IT service management frameworks and methodologies (e.g., ITIL Foundation certification).
