Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the night care team, delegating tasks and ensuring comprehensive shift coverage.
  • Provide direct personal care and support to residents as required, maintaining their dignity and independence.
  • Administer medication in accordance with company policies and CQC guidelines, maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct regular welfare checks on residents throughout the night, responding promptly to any concerns or emergencies.
  • Document care plans, incidents, and daily activities thoroughly and accurately.
  • Act as a first point of contact for staff, residents, and their families during the night, addressing any issues professionally.
  • Ensure the care environment remains safe, clean, and comfortable for all residents.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and best practice.
  • Implement and uphold all company policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Liaise with external healthcare professionals (e.g., GPs, nurses) when necessary during the night shift.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an elderly care setting
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience within care
  • Proven ability to administer medication safely and accurately
  • Strong understanding of CQC regulations and best practice in care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively during night shifts
  • Proficiency in care plan documentation and record-keeping
  • Calm, compassionate, and resilient demeanor under pressure

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid certification
  • Dementia awareness training
  • Experience with electronic care planning systems
  • Advanced leadership or management training in a healthcare context
