Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our dynamic team in East London, Eastern Cape. As a Phlebotomist at Lancet Laboratories, you will play a critical role in the diagnostic process by expertly collecting blood samples from patients of all ages, ensuring accuracy, patient comfort, and adherence to strict safety and quality protocols. This position requires an individual with exceptional technical proficiency in venipuncture, a meticulous approach to sample handling, and outstanding interpersonal skills to interact with patients from diverse backgrounds. You will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of samples, accurate patient identification, and providing a reassuring experience during blood collection procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and other specimen collection procedures with precision and care for patients of all ages, including infants, children, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to established laboratory protocols to ensure patient safety and sample integrity.
- Maintain a sterile and organized work environment, adhering strictly to infection control and safety guidelines.
- Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Process and prepare collected specimens for transport to the laboratory, ensuring proper storage conditions and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of all phlebotomy procedures, including patient demographics, tests ordered, and specimens collected.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection and patient identification, escalating complex cases to supervisory staff when necessary.
- Adhere to all relevant regulatory standards, including those pertaining to HIPAA/POPIA and laboratory accreditation.
- Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay updated with best practices in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
