Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking an experienced and highly reliable Truck Driver to join our growing logistics and transport team in Kilimani, Nairobi. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods across various routes, primarily within Nairobi and occasionally to surrounding regions. This position requires a professional with a strong commitment to safety, adherence to traffic laws, and excellent vehicle operation skills. As a Truck Driver, you will be the backbone of our operations, ensuring that our clients’ goods reach their destinations intact and on schedule, playing a crucial part in maintaining our reputation for exceptional service and logistical excellence. We are looking for individuals who take pride in their work, possess a meticulous approach to vehicle maintenance, and are adept at navigating diverse road conditions while upholding the highest standards of professionalism. You will contribute directly to the efficiency and success of our supply chain, interacting with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and clients, making effective communication a key component of your daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy and light commercial vehicles safely and efficiently to transport goods to designated locations.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all systems are in good working order and reporting any defects or necessary repairs promptly.
  • Accurately complete logbooks, delivery manifests, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods as needed, ensuring proper securing and handling to prevent damage.
  • Maintain clear and constant communication with the dispatch team regarding delivery status, delays, and potential issues.
  • Ensure cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
  • Represent Career.zycto professionally during interactions with clients and the public.
  • Manage time effectively to meet tight delivery schedules and deadlines.

Required Skills

  • Valid Kenyan Driving License Class BCE (or equivalent for heavy commercial vehicles)
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial truck driving experience
  • Clean driving record with no major violations
  • Excellent knowledge of Nairobi and surrounding road networks
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and routine maintenance procedures
  • Ability to operate vehicles safely in diverse weather conditions and traffic
  • Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)
  • Proficiency in basic written and verbal communication in English and Swahili
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate in Defensive Driving or advanced driving courses
  • Experience with GPS navigation systems and mobile logistics applications
  • Knowledge of cargo securing techniques and regulations for various goods
  • Experience transporting specific types of cargo (e.g., perishable goods, hazardous materials – if applicable)
  • Additional certifications related to transport or logistics
