Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for all mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex mechanical breakdowns swiftly to minimize downtime and production losses.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery and modifications to existing plant infrastructure.
  • Conduct regular inspections, performance monitoring, and root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, electrical, safety) to optimize operational efficiency and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and liaise with suppliers for critical components.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, maintenance logs, and documentation for all engineering activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and continuous improvement in plant operations.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and maintenance staff, fostering skill development.
  • Participate in capital projects, from conceptualization and design to execution and handover.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in agro-processing, sugar, cement, or similar industries.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating machinery, conveyors, and boilers.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance projects and teams.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH).
  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and control systems.
  • Experience with steam generation and distribution systems.
