Job Description

Anchovy High School is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic science department. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare laboratory materials, equipment, and solutions for practical science lessons and demonstrations across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, ensuring all equipment and chemicals are stored correctly.
  • Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, providing guidance on equipment usage, experimental procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of laboratory chemicals, glassware, and other supplies; initiate reorder requests as necessary to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper disposal of chemical and biological waste.
  • Document experiments, equipment usage, and safety checks in accordance with school policies.
  • Assist with the development and testing of new practical activities and educational resources.
  • Provide support for science-related extracurricular activities, projects, and school events.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to optimize laboratory utilization and enhance the overall science curriculum.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (CXC/CSEC passes in Science subjects preferred)
  • Basic understanding of scientific principles and laboratory practices
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working and learning environment
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing or holding an Associate's Degree or Diploma in Science, Laboratory Technology, or a related field
