Job Description

We are seeking a highly meticulous and dedicated Bookkeeper & Accounting Support Specialist to join our vibrant team at the Bomet branch. This critical role involves providing essential support to our accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and contributing to the smooth operation of our financial processes. The ideal candidate will be proficient in various accounting software, possess a keen eye for detail, and be committed to maintaining confidentiality and compliance with financial regulations. You will play a pivotal role in daily financial operations, assisting with data entry, reconciliation, and report generation, directly impacting the SACCO’s financial health and our ability to serve our members effectively. Key Responsibilities

  • Process and record daily financial transactions, including receipts, disbursements, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and proper classification.
  • Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and member accounts regularly to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers, balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the accounting team with auditing processes, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices and collection of outstanding debts.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., SASRA guidelines).
  • Assist in payroll processing and related statutory deductions (PAYE, NHIF, NSSF) as needed.
  • Maintain organized and accessible digital and physical filing systems for all financial documents.
  • Respond to financial queries from members and staff in a professional and timely manner, providing clear and accurate information.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting support role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar SACCO-specific systems).
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Swahili.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA Part I or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience working within a Sacco or financial institution environment.
  • Familiarity with Kenyan tax laws and financial regulations.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new software and accounting procedures.
