Job Description

As a Lead Product Designer at NMB Bank Plc, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience and visual design of our cutting-edge digital products. You will lead a team of talented designers, guiding them through the entire product lifecycle from conceptualization to launch and iteration. This position requires a visionary leader who can inspire and mentor, while also maintaining a hands-on approach to design. You will be instrumental in translating complex business requirements into intuitive, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces that meet the needs of our diverse customer base. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of product designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and drive the overall design strategy and vision for key digital products, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and validate hypotheses.
  • Translate insights into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for various platforms (web, mobile).
  • Develop and maintain a robust design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all products.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Present design concepts, rationale, and prototypes to stakeholders, effectively communicating design solutions and incorporating feedback.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in UX/UI design, and integrate them into our design processes.
  • Facilitate design sprints and workshops to generate innovative ideas and solve complex design challenges.
  • Advocate for user-centered design best practices and cultivate a design-thinking mindset within the broader organization.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 6 years) as a Lead Product Designer or similar senior UX/UI role.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a breadth of digital product design work, including user experience, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Expert proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
  • Extensive experience with user-centered design methodologies, including user research, usability testing, and persona development.
  • Solid understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a design team.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in the financial services or fintech industry.
  • Familiarity with motion design principles and tools.
  • Experience contributing to or managing a design system at scale.
  • Certifications in UX/UI design or Agile methodologies.
  • Fluency in Swahili is an advantage.
