Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately process, file, and retrieve patient medical records, both electronic and physical, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Maintain and update patient information in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, including data entry of new information and corrections.
  • Ensure all medical records comply with provincial and national privacy regulations (e.g., PIPA, FIPPA) and company policies.
  • Scan and categorize paper documents into the digital record system.
  • Respond to requests for medical records from authorized personnel, ensuring proper release of information procedures are followed.
  • Perform regular audits of medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage a high volume of administrative tasks efficiently and accurately from a remote work setting.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1.5 years (18 months) of experience in medical records management or a similar administrative role within healthcare.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and medical terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated home office workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Office Assistant (MOA) program or Health Information Management (HIM) diploma/certificate.
  • Experience with specific EMR systems such as OSCAR, Med Access, or Telus Health EMR.
  • Familiarity with BC healthcare system regulations and protocols.
  • Experience in a remote or virtual work environment.
