Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pipefitter to join our dedicated team at Mpanda Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (MUWASA). The successful candidate will be instrumental in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and sanitation systems across Mpanda Municipality. This role requires a strong understanding of pipe systems, materials, and construction techniques, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality and safety. As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, cutting and threading pipes, assembling and installing various pipe systems (PVC, HDPE, galvanized, ductile iron), and ensuring all installations comply with established standards and specifications. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and other field staff to address water leaks, burst pipes, and new connection requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to service. Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain water and wastewater pipe systems and components according to blueprints, schematics, and safety regulations.
- Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes of various materials (PVC, HDPE, galvanized, ductile iron) using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Inspect, test, and troubleshoot pipe systems to identify and resolve leaks, blockages, and other issues promptly.
- Perform preventative maintenance on existing pipe networks to ensure optimal functionality and longevity.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialized pipefitting equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, industry standards, and environmental regulations during all work activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to plan projects, assess material needs, and coordinate work schedules efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system modifications for documentation purposes.
- Respond to emergency calls for pipe repairs, including burst pipes and significant leaks, often outside regular working hours.
- Provide guidance and training to junior team members or assistants as required to foster skill development.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Pipefitter, particularly in water utility or civil infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Expertise in various pipe joining methods, including solvent welding, fusion welding, threading, and mechanical joints.
- Strong knowledge of different pipe materials (PVC, HDPE, DI, galvanized steel) and their applications.
- Solid understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to pipefitting, excavation, and construction.
- Ability to use and maintain hand and power tools common to the trade safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
- Physical stamina and agility to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Valid Tanzanian driving license (Class C preferred for operating utility vehicles).
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or a certificate in Pipefitting, Plumbing, or a related technical field.
- Experience with advanced pipe inspection and repair technologies.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes and wastewater sanitation systems.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and utility asset management systems.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
