Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Radiographer – Diagnostic Imaging Professional to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role is responsible for performing a comprehensive range of diagnostic radiographic procedures, producing high-quality images that aid in accurate diagnosis and effective patient treatment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, fluoroscopy, and potentially CT scans (depending on departmental scope), in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
- Ensure optimal patient positioning, imaging parameters, and radiation protection techniques to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Review and verify patient clinical history and physician orders for appropriateness of radiologic examination.
- Educate patients about the procedure, addressing their concerns and ensuring their comfort and cooperation throughout the imaging process.
- Operate and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment, performing routine quality control checks and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Accurately record and document patient information, imaging results, and technical data in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and patient records.
- Adhere strictly to all radiation safety guidelines, infection control policies, and departmental procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with radiologists, referring physicians, and other medical staff to ensure seamless patient care and accurate diagnostic reporting.
- Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay abreast of advancements in radiography and imaging technology.
- Assist in patient transportation and care as needed, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating various diagnostic imaging equipment (e.g., digital radiography, fluoroscopy).
- Thorough knowledge of radiographic anatomy, pathology, and physiology.
- Strong understanding of radiation physics and radiation protection principles.
- Competence in patient positioning and imaging techniques for diverse examinations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to accurately assess patient conditions and adapt procedures as necessary.
- Proficiency in using Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialization or certification in additional imaging modalities (e.g., CT, MRI, Mammography).
- Experience with advanced imaging software and reporting tools.
- Membership in a professional radiographer association (e.g., Jamaica Society of Radiographers).
