Job Description

Join Career.zycto as a Night Support Worker and become an essential part of our dedicated team providing compassionate care and support to individuals in Rutland, Kelowna. This vital night shift role focuses on ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our residents throughout the evening and early morning hours. As a Night Support Worker, you will be the vigilant presence, offering peace of mind and responsive assistance during a time when many sleep. Your work directly contributes to a stable and nurturing environment, allowing residents to feel secure and supported around the clock.

We are seeking an empathetic, responsible, and observant individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of others. Your duties will span from monitoring residents and facilities, providing necessary personal care and medication reminders, to light housekeeping and meticulous documentation. Crisis intervention skills and a calm demeanor are paramount, as you may be called upon to handle unexpected situations with professionalism and care. You will work independently yet be an integral part of a larger support network, ensuring seamless transitions between shifts and contributing to a cohesive team atmosphere. This role demands a high degree of reliability, discretion, and a genuine commitment to upholding the dignity and respect of every individual we serve. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor residents and facilities throughout the night to ensure safety and security.
  • Provide person-centred support, including assistance with personal care, hygiene, and mobility as needed.
  • Administer or remind residents of medication according to established protocols and record keeping.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, crises, or challenging behaviours, following established guidelines.
  • Document observations, incidents, and resident progress accurately and thoroughly in daily logs and reports.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, tidying communal areas, and ensuring a clean and comfortable environment.
  • Prepare for the morning shift by completing necessary handover reports and ensuring facilities are ready.
  • Foster a respectful and supportive atmosphere, maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Engage with residents in a supportive and appropriate manner, promoting independence and well-being.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 6 months experience in a support worker or caregiving role.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check).
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and compassion.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Community Support, or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and complex needs.
  • Knowledge of local community resources in Kelowna.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or similar.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification.
