Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive School Cleaner Maintenance Support professional to join our team in Garissa County, Kenya. This crucial role is instrumental in ensuring a safe, clean, and functional learning environment for students, teachers, and staff. As a School Cleaner Maintenance Support, you will be the backbone of our facilities operations, responsible for maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and minor repairs throughout the school premises. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal in classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
- Sanitize and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly to maintain a healthy and germ-free environment, particularly in restrooms and dining areas.
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other consumables as needed, ensuring adequate stock levels and reporting any shortages.
- Carry out minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues (e.g., leaky faucets, clogged drains), basic carpentry, and wall repairs.
- Report significant damages, major repair needs, or safety hazards to the designated supervisor promptly and accurately.
- Assist with setting up and dismantling equipment for school events, assemblies, or special functions, ensuring timely preparation and cleanup.
- Maintain outdoor areas immediately around the school building, including sweeping pathways, clearing debris, and basic gardening tasks like watering plants if required.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring they are in good working order and reporting any malfunctions.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and procedures mandated by the school and local authorities.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to minimize disruption during school hours and ensure a clean, tidy, and organized learning space at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least one year in cleaning and general maintenance, preferably in a school, hotel, or institutional setting.
- Strong understanding of various cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment suitable for different surfaces.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks competently and safely.
- Excellent attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual tasks, lift moderate weights (up to 20kg), and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, strong organizational skills, and a solid work ethic.
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety standards pertinent to cleaning and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent certificate of education.
- Certification in basic first aid or occupational safety.
- Previous experience working specifically in an educational institution.
- Ability to operate specialized cleaning machinery such as floor polishers, carpet cleaners, or pressure washers.
- Familiarity with waste management and recycling protocols.
