Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Customs Broker to join our client’s dedicated team in New Sudbury, Sudbury. This is a remarkable opportunity for a qualified professional, including those from abroad, as visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate. As a Customs Broker, you will be instrumental in navigating the complexities of Canadian customs regulations, ensuring the smooth and compliant passage of goods across international borders. This role requires a deep understanding of import/export procedures, tariff classifications, valuation, and trade agreements. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting customs declarations, liaising with customs officials, and advising clients on a wide range of customs-related matters. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication skills to articulate complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations and related documentation for import and export shipments.
  • Determine correct tariff classifications, valuations, and country of origin for goods.
  • Ensure compliance with all Canadian customs laws, regulations, and other government department requirements.
  • Advise clients on customs procedures, duties, taxes, trade agreements (e.g., CUSMA), and other relevant trade policies.
  • Liaise effectively with Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and other government agencies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all customs transactions.
  • Proactively identify and resolve customs-related issues to prevent delays and minimize costs.
  • Stay informed of changes in customs legislation and trade regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build strong client relationships.

Required Skills

  • Licensed Customs Broker (CCS designation or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Customs Broker or in a related customs compliance role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Customs Act, regulations, and import/export procedures.
  • Proficiency in tariff classification, valuation, and Free Trade Agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with customs brokerage software and systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
