Job Description

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is actively seeking an experienced Pipe Insulation Installer to join our dynamic and essential team based in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South Province. In this crucial hands-on role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the operational efficiency, structural integrity, and long-term reliability of our extensive water infrastructure, ensuring optimal temperature regulation and maximizing energy conservation across our critical facilities. As a Pipe Insulation Installer, your primary responsibilities will include the expert installation, meticulous repair, and routine maintenance of various types of insulation materials on pipes, ducts, and specialized equipment situated within our water treatment plants, various pumping stations, and complex distribution networks. Your specialized expertise will directly contribute to preventing unnecessary heat loss or gain, providing robust protection for pipes from potential freezing or overheating, effectively reducing operational noise levels, and ensuring the overall safety and compliance of our operational environments. Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and insulation specifications to determine insulation type, quantity, and application methods.
  • Measure and cut insulation materials (e.g., fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, cellular glass) to fit pipes, valves, tanks, and ducts accurately.
  • Apply insulation materials using appropriate tools and techniques, including fastening, gluing, wiring, and taping.
  • Install protective coverings, such as sheet metal jacketing, plastic, or canvas, to secure insulation and provide weatherproofing.
  • Inspect installed insulation for proper fit, seal, and adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Remove and replace damaged or outdated insulation, ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials if applicable.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for and stored.
  • Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Document work performed, including materials used and hours spent, for project tracking and reporting.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Pipe Insulation Installer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in measuring, cutting, and fitting various insulation materials.
  • Familiarity with different types of insulation (e.g., fiberglass, foam, mineral wool) and their applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to insulation work.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and physical stamina for bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
  • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in insulation installation.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant trade school certification or apprenticeship completion.
  • Experience working in industrial, water treatment, or utilities environments.
  • Familiarity with specific insulation application techniques for extreme temperatures or corrosive environments.
  • Valid driver's license.
