Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for a diverse employee base, with a focus on foreign workers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensure strict compliance with all federal and provincial payroll legislation, including CRA regulations, Employment Standards Act, and other relevant statutes.
- Calculate and process statutory deductions (CPP, EI, income tax) and voluntary deductions (benefits, RRSPs, etc.).
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROEs) and T4 slips, alongside other year-end reporting requirements.
- Respond to and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees, providing clear and patient explanations, particularly to foreign employees who may require additional guidance on Canadian payroll specifics.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare relevant journal entries for the accounting department.
- Administer employee benefits, vacation, and other leave entitlements as they pertain to payroll.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data in the payroll system, adhering to privacy and confidentiality protocols.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and best practices, adapting processes as necessary.
- Collaborate closely with HR and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of data and processes.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience in Canadian payroll processing.
- Proficiency with major payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, UKG Pro).
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial payroll legislation (CRA, EI, CPP, WCB).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll information clearly and patiently.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to issues.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Experience specifically processing payroll for foreign workers or employees with diverse immigration statuses.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems and their integration with payroll platforms.
- Multilingualism, particularly in languages common among Vancouver's international population, is an asset.
