As a Speech Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a diverse caseload of patients with communication and swallowing disorders. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages.
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans based on evidence-based practice and patient needs.
- Provide direct therapy sessions, utilising a range of therapeutic techniques and resources.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, including assessment reports, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to holistic patient care planning.
- Educate and advise patients, families, and other professionals on communication strategies and swallowing techniques.
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Contribute to service development initiatives and uphold professional standards.
- Stay updated with current research and best practices in Speech and Language Therapy.
Required Skills
- BSc or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification clinical experience in Speech and Language Therapy
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse caseload across different age groups (e.g., paediatric and adult)
- Proficiency in assessing and treating a range of communication and swallowing disorders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within an NHS or similar public healthcare setting
- Specialist interest or advanced training in a specific area of Speech and Language Therapy (e.g., dysphagia, voice disorders, autism)
- Experience in supervising junior therapists or students
- Knowledge of relevant local and national policies and guidelines
