Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses for various projects and operational sites.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Participate in site inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Research and interpret relevant safety legislation, codes, and industry best practices (e.g., CSA, WorkSafeBC).
- Help prepare detailed safety reports, incident investigation summaries, and corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with project teams and various stakeholders to integrate safety considerations into project design and execution.
- Support the organization and delivery of safety awareness campaigns and training sessions for employees.
- Assist in maintaining safety documentation, records, and databases in an organized and accessible manner.
- Contribute to the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventative measures.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Engineering (e.g., Safety, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, Environmental).
- Strong academic record and a genuine interest in occupational health and safety.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an aptitude for detail-oriented work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex safety concepts clearly.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn, adapt, and take initiative in a professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (academic project, volunteer, or co-op) related to safety, risk management, or quality assurance.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 or other recognized safety management system standards.
- Basic understanding of Canadian provincial (e.g., WorkSafeBC) and federal safety regulations.
- Knowledge of CAD software or other relevant engineering design tools.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
