Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a passionate and dedicated Swimming Instructor to join our vibrant team in Gorgie, Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to make a significant impact on individuals of all ages and abilities, helping them discover the joy and safety of swimming. As an integral part of our community-focused service, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality swimming lessons in a safe, fun, and engaging environment. You will work with diverse groups, from nervous beginners taking their first splash to advanced swimmers refining their strokes and technique. You will be instrumental in helping our clients achieve their personal bests, whether it’s conquering a fear of water, mastering a new stroke, or preparing for competitive swimming. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective swimming lessons for individuals and groups across various age and ability levels, primarily for English speakers.
  • Assess swimmers' abilities, track progress, and provide constructive feedback to help them achieve their learning objectives.
  • Ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained at all times, adhering to facility guidelines, emergency procedures, and safeguarding policies.
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and guardians regarding progress, class structure, and any relevant information.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Regularly evaluate and adapt teaching methods to cater to diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Promote a positive and encouraging learning environment that fosters confidence and enjoyment in the water.

Required Skills

  • STA Level 2 Certificate or equivalent (e.g., ASA/Swim England Level 2 Teaching Aquatics qualification)
  • Valid First Aid at Work certificate
  • Valid Lifesaving qualification (e.g., NPLQ or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years (24 months) experience as a Swimming Instructor
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluent English speaking ability
  • Proven ability to teach a diverse range of age groups and abilities
  • Strong understanding of swimming techniques and water safety protocols
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with competitive swimming coaching
  • Qualifications in teaching infants or individuals with special needs
  • Additional language proficiency (desirable, but not essential)
  • Previous experience working in a busy leisure centre environment
