Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement land use policies, zoning bylaws, and official community plans.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of development applications, including subdivisions, rezonings, and variances.
- Prepare and present detailed planning reports, recommendations, and presentations to municipal councils, committees, and the public.
- Lead and participate in public consultation processes and community engagement initiatives.
- Provide expert planning advice and guidance to internal teams, external clients, and stakeholders.
- Analyze demographic data, economic trends, and environmental factors to inform planning decisions.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, environmental specialists, and other professionals on multidisciplinary projects.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant provincial and federal planning legislation and regulations.
- Undertake site visits, field assessments, and data collection to support planning projects.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Geography, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in urban or regional planning.
- Strong understanding of Canadian planning principles, legislation, and best practices.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and public engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and/or a provincial planning institute.
