Job Description

Join our compassionate and dedicated oncology team as a Full-Time Radiation Therapist, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering life-changing care to patients in Brandon and the surrounding communities. As a Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for the precise planning and delivery of radiation treatments as prescribed by radiation oncologists. Your daily tasks will involve performing simulations, executing treatment plans with meticulous accuracy, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout their treatment journey. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and nurses to provide comprehensive, individualized care. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses exceptional communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a deep sense of empathy for patients undergoing challenging treatments. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform precise radiation therapy treatments on patients as prescribed by radiation oncologists, utilizing advanced linear accelerators.
  • Conduct patient simulations, including CT scans, and assist with treatment planning procedures to ensure optimal targeting and dose delivery.
  • Monitor patients during treatment for adverse reactions and provide immediate assistance and supportive care as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including treatment parameters, daily setup images, and patient responses.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Ensure the proper functioning and calibration of radiation therapy equipment, performing daily quality assurance checks.
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding treatment procedures, potential side effects, and supportive care resources.
  • Adhere strictly to all radiation safety protocols and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in radiation therapy.

Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
  • Current registration and good standing with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) or provincial equivalent.
  • Valid provincial license to practice as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Radiation Therapist in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in operating various radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators (e.g., Varian, Elekta).
  • Strong understanding of radiation physics, dosimetry, and treatment planning systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and quality care.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Radiation Sciences or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced treatment techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and Brachytherapy.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems specific to oncology.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital or a specialized cancer center.
