Job Description

Are you a passionate and skilled rock climber with a knack for teaching and inspiring others? Career.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and certified Rock Climbing Instructors to join our network of premier climbing centres located across Digbeth, Birmingham. We partner with state-of-the-art indoor climbing gyms and bouldering facilities, as well as outdoor adventure providers, all committed to fostering a safe, fun, and inclusive climbing environment for participants of all ages and skill levels. As an instructor, you will be crucial in introducing beginners to the sport, refining techniques for intermediate climbers, and ensuring the highest safety standards are always upheld. Your role will involve delivering engaging lessons, demonstrating proper techniques, and providing constructive feedback, all while promoting a positive and supportive atmosphere. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively instruct individuals and groups in various climbing disciplines (e.g., top-roping, lead climbing, bouldering).
  • Develop and deliver engaging climbing lessons and courses tailored to different skill levels and age groups.
  • Perform thorough safety checks on equipment and climbing areas before, during, and after sessions.
  • Educate participants on proper climbing techniques, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback and encouragement to participants to foster skill development and confidence.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness regarding participant safety and respond effectively to emergencies if they arise.
  • Assist with the maintenance and inspection of climbing walls and equipment as required.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and fun atmosphere within the climbing facility.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 18 months of demonstrable experience as a climbing instructor or assistant instructor.
  • Hold relevant NGB (National Governing Body) climbing qualifications (e.g., CWI, RCI, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to teach and communicate complex techniques clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent understanding of climbing safety protocols, equipment, and risk management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, enthusiastic, and approachable demeanor.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (current).
  • A genuine passion for rock climbing and outdoor sports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with coaching advanced climbing techniques or competitive climbing.
  • Additional outdoor instructor qualifications (e.g., ML, SPA).
  • Experience working with youth programs or diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of route setting and climbing wall maintenance.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
