Career.zycto is actively seeking dedicated Vehicle Recovery Operatives to join our dynamic team in Clifton, York. This critical role involves providing essential roadside assistance and vehicle recovery services for a wide range of vehicles, from standard passenger cars to light commercial vehicles. As a Vehicle Recovery Operative, you will be the frontline face of our service, responding to breakdowns, accidents, and other roadside incidents, ensuring the safe and efficient recovery or transportation of vehicles and their occupants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly and efficiently to roadside assistance and recovery call-outs.
  • Safely load, secure, and transport disabled or damaged vehicles using appropriate recovery techniques and equipment.
  • Conduct initial vehicle assessments and provide minor roadside repairs where possible (e.g., jump-starts, tyre changes).
  • Interact professionally and empathetically with customers, often in challenging circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate records of recovery operations, vehicle condition, and customer interactions.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on recovery vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are always in safe and working order.
  • Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, company policies, and health & safety guidelines.
  • Navigate effectively using GPS and local knowledge to reach incident locations swiftly.
  • Work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by a 24/7 service.

Required Skills

  • Full, valid UK Driving Licence (or equivalent international licence transferable to UK) with category C1 or higher.
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial driving experience.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and basic vehicle fault diagnosis skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
  • Residency or valid work permit for the UK.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating various types of recovery vehicles (e.g., slide beds, spectacles).
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
  • Previous experience in a roadside assistance or vehicle recovery role.
  • Understanding of local road networks in York and surrounding areas.
  • Professional driving qualifications such as CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
