Job Description
Wade Construction is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Slab and Concrete Cutter to join our dynamic project team in Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province. In this critical role, you will be responsible for executing precise cuts in concrete slabs, walls, and other structural elements using specialized cutting equipment. Your expertise will be vital for various construction phases, including demolition, renovation, utility access, and structural modification. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of different concrete types and cutting methods, and an unwavering commitment to safety protocols.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating a range of concrete cutting machinery, including diamond saws, wire saws, and core drills, and will ensure all work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards. You will work closely with site managers, engineers, and other tradespeople to ensure seamless project execution and contribute directly to the successful delivery of our construction objectives. We are looking for an individual who is not only technically competent but also a team player, capable of working effectively in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a variety of concrete cutting equipment, including floor saws, wall saws, hand saws, core drills, and wire saws.
- Perform precise and clean cuts in concrete slabs, asphalt, walls, and other surfaces according to technical drawings and project specifications.
- Measure, mark, and prepare work areas accurately before commencing cutting operations.
- Inspect equipment for safety and operational readiness, performing minor repairs and routine maintenance as required.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and health regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Manage and dispose of concrete debris and slurry in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Collaborate effectively with foremen, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work and ensure project timelines are met.
- Identify potential hazards and implement preventative measures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment service logs.
- Assist with other construction-related tasks as directed by site management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating concrete cutting equipment (e.g., diamond saws, core drills, wire saws)
- Strong understanding of concrete properties and cutting techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Excellent physical stamina and strength for demanding manual work
- Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and procedures
- Attention to detail and precision in execution
- Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade certification or vocational training in concrete works or construction.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of local construction safety regulations.
