Career.zycto is excited to be recruiting on behalf of a prominent public transport provider in Shoreditch, London, for aspiring Transit Bus Drivers. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with a strong work ethic and a commitment to customer service, even if you have no prior bus driving experience. Full, comprehensive training will be provided to help you obtain the necessary Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) license and develop the skills required to navigate London’s dynamic streets safely and efficiently.
As a Transit Bus Driver, you will be the face of public transport, responsible for safely transporting passengers across various routes within Shoreditch and wider London. This role goes beyond just driving; it’s about providing a vital service that connects communities, facilitates daily commutes, and ensures everyone can access their destinations reliably. You’ll operate modern, well-maintained vehicles, adhere strictly to schedules, and maintain a high standard of passenger safety and comfort. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a transit bus on assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and company regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting passengers with enquiries, directions, and ensuring a comfortable journey.
- Manage passenger boarding and alighting, including operating ramps and securing wheelchairs for passengers with reduced mobility.
- Collect fares, issue tickets, and manage cashless payment systems accurately.
- Conduct pre-service and post-service vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and passenger counts.
- Adhere to strict timetables and schedules, ensuring punctuality while prioritizing safety.
- Handle unexpected situations with professionalism and composure, including minor vehicle issues or passenger incidents.
- Communicate effectively with depot staff, control room, and colleagues.
- Ensure the cleanliness and presentability of the bus interior throughout shifts.
Required Skills
- A full UK driving licence (Category B) with no more than 6 penalty points.
- A minimum of 2 years' driving experience post-qualification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- A calm and professional demeanour under pressure.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills for handling fares and completing reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Knowledge of local London road networks and geographical areas.
- First Aid certification (training will be provided if not held).
