As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist, assisting in the implementation of treatment plans designed to help patients achieve their functional goals. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Occupational Therapists in the implementation of individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Guide patients through therapeutic exercises and activities designed to improve motor skills, strength, balance, and coordination.
- Observe and document patient progress, behaviors, and responses to therapy, reporting findings to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and materials before and after therapy sessions, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
- Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs, adaptive techniques, and the use of assistive devices.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including daily notes and progress reports.
- Collaborate effectively with Occupational Therapists, other healthcare professionals, and administrative staff.
- Adhere to all professional and ethical standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for documentation and scheduling.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or fieldwork experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
- Familiarity with various adaptive equipment and assistive technologies.
- Knowledge of common therapeutic modalities and techniques.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional association (e.g., COTANB).
