Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines (lathes, milling machines, grinders) to perform various machining operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
- Select appropriate tools, materials, and machine settings for each job.
- Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, making adjustments as necessary.
- Perform in-process and final inspection of machined parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and report any major issues to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize processes and troubleshoot issues.
- Program CNC machines, making modifications to existing programs as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist or similar role.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating various CNC machinery (e.g., Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens controls).
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
- Excellent understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAM software for programming.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
