Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, strimming, edging, and leaf blowing.
- Prune shrubs, hedges, and trees to maintain desired shapes and health.
- Weed control, including manual weeding and careful application of herbicides where appropriate.
- Planting and care of seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance aesthetic appeal.
- Irrigate lawns, gardens, and flowerbeds to ensure optimal hydration.
- Maintain paths, driveways, and common areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and free from debris.
- Operate and maintain a range of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers).
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Monitor the health of plants and turf, identifying and reporting any issues such as pests or diseases.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow clearance and gritting during winter months.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in grounds maintenance or a similar horticultural role (minimum 12 months).
- Demonstrable knowledge of gardening techniques, plant care, and general landscape maintenance.
- Proficiency in operating various grounds maintenance machinery safely and effectively.
- A valid UK driving license is essential for travelling between sites.
- Strong physical fitness and stamina, capable of performing manual labour in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and reliability.
- Good communication skills to interact with colleagues and clients respectfully.
Preferred Qualifications
- Horticultural qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent).
- PA1/PA6 certification for chemical application.
- Experience with advanced landscaping techniques or garden design.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems.
- First Aid certification.
