As a Tree Surgeon, you will be performing a variety of arboricultural operations, including tree pruning, felling, and planting, working primarily with local authorities, commercial clients, and private landowners. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the health, safety, and aesthetics of trees within various landscapes. This role demands a strong understanding of tree biology, advanced climbing techniques, and the safe operation of chainsaws and other specialist equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various arboricultural operations including pruning, felling, crown reduction, crown thinning, and pollarding.
- Operate chainsaws and other specialist arboricultural equipment safely and efficiently, both on the ground and at height.
- Execute safe and efficient tree climbing techniques, including aerial rescue.
- Conduct site-specific risk assessments and adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain all tools and equipment to a high standard, performing routine checks and reporting any defects.
- Ensure all work is completed to the highest arboricultural standards and customer satisfaction.
- Dispose of waste materials responsibly and efficiently.
- Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly and professionally with colleagues and clients.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Tree Surgeon or Arborist.
- Demonstrable proficiency in advanced tree climbing techniques.
- Competent in operating chainsaws safely and efficiently (cross-cutting, felling, aerial work).
- Strong understanding of tree biology, identification, and pest/disease management.
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Commitment to health and safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- NPTC qualifications (or equivalent international certifications) for chainsaw operations (CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39).
- Full UK driving license (Category B, ideally B+E or C1+E).
- Emergency First Aid at Work certification.
- Experience with specialist equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
- Previous experience working in the UK arboricultural sector.
