Job Description

Are you a passionate and culturally sensitive Fitness Instructor eager to make a significant impact on the well-being of Edmonton’s diverse international community? Career.zycto is seeking an exceptional individual to join our network, specifically to serve foreign residents in the vibrant Glenora area. This unique opportunity calls for an instructor who understands the specific needs, cultural backgrounds, and potential language barriers that international clients may face when integrating into a new fitness routine and environment.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for creating personalized, effective, and culturally appropriate fitness programs. You’ll go beyond traditional training, acting as a supportive guide to help clients overcome initial hesitations, understand local fitness customs, and feel comfortable and motivated. Your ability to build rapport, communicate clearly, and adapt your teaching style to various cultural contexts will be paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement individualized and group fitness programs tailored to the cultural background and fitness levels of foreign clients.
  • Provide clear, concise, and culturally sensitive instruction on exercise techniques, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Adapt communication strategies to effectively engage clients with varying English proficiency levels, utilizing visual aids or translation tools when necessary.
  • Conduct thorough fitness assessments, goal setting, and progress tracking, adjusting programs as needed.
  • Educate clients on local fitness etiquette, gym culture, and available wellness resources in Edmonton.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive fitness environment for all participants.
  • Offer ongoing motivation, support, and encouragement to help clients adhere to their fitness plans.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, fitness methodologies, and best practices for diverse populations.
  • Handle client inquiries and concerns with empathy and professionalism.

Required Skills

  • Certified Personal Trainer (e.g., ACE, NASM, CanFitPro, ISSA)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong verbal clarity.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing various fitness programs (strength, cardio, flexibility).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Deep understanding of exercise physiology and kinesiology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  • Experience living or working abroad, or significant experience with multicultural populations.
  • Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Punjabi, Tagalog) are a significant asset.
  • Specialized certifications (e.g., Group Fitness, Nutrition Coaching, Yoga, Pilates).
