Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking an exceptionally talented and passionate Cinematographer to join our vibrant creative team in Kisii, Kisii County. As our Cinematographer, you will collaborate closely with directors, producers, and editors throughout the entire production lifecycle, from pre-production planning and storyboarding to on-set execution and post-production review. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate professional video cameras and associated equipment (lenses, tripods, gimbals, drones, etc.) with precision and artistry.
  • Execute lighting setups tailored to enhance mood, atmosphere, and subject matter, utilizing a variety of lighting instruments and techniques.
  • Collaborate with directors and creative teams to interpret scripts and storyboards, developing a distinct visual style for each project.
  • Scout locations for optimal shooting conditions, considering factors such as light, sound, and visual appeal.
  • Oversee camera department crew and manage equipment during shoots, ensuring proper functionality and safety protocols are followed.
  • Maintain and organize camera and lighting equipment, ensuring it is always in excellent working condition.
  • Actively participate in pre-production meetings, offering creative input on visual concepts, shot lists, and logistical planning.
  • Work closely with post-production team during editing and color grading to ensure the final product aligns with the intended visual vision.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in cinematography and visual storytelling.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Cinematographer or Director of Photography with a strong portfolio.
  • Exceptional understanding of cinematic principles, including composition, framing, camera movement, and visual storytelling.
  • Expertise in various lighting techniques for both studio and on-location shoots.
  • Proficiency with professional cinema cameras (e.g., Blackmagic, Sony, Canon C-series) and DSLR/Mirrorless systems.
  • Solid knowledge of camera settings, lenses, filters, and other accessories.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to various shooting challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Film Production, Cinematography, Media Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience with drone operation for aerial cinematography (Part 107 certification or local equivalent preferred).
  • Familiarity with color grading workflows and software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Knowledge of sound recording principles for video production.
  • Experience with motion graphics and visual effects is a plus.
