Job Description

Are you a compassionate and experienced care professional looking for an immediate opportunity to make a significant impact on seniors’ lives in the Mount Dennis community? VON is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Care Home Aide to join our esteemed team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive personal care and support to seniors within their homes, enabling them to maintain independence, dignity, and a high quality of life. As a Senior Care Home Aide, you will be at the forefront of our mission, delivering person-centered care that respects individual preferences and promotes overall well-being. You will work closely with clients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure care plans are meticulously followed and adjusted as needed. This position demands a proactive approach, exceptional communication skills, and a genuine desire to uplift and empower our senior clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance.
  • Assist with medication reminders as per care plan and provincial guidelines.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding, ensuring dietary restrictions are observed.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties essential to maintaining a clean and safe client environment.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in meaningful activities.
  • Monitor and report changes in clients' physical or mental health status to the supervisory team.
  • Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided and observations made.
  • Adhere strictly to VON's policies, procedures, and health and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with clients, families, and healthcare team members.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in senior care or a similar healthcare support role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of senior care needs and compassionate client interaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties with professionalism, empathy, and respect.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, transferring, and assisting clients.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to client homes within the Mount Dennis area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a recognized college.
  • Experience working with clients with diverse health conditions, including dementia or Alzheimer's.
  • Knowledge of a second language relevant to the Mount Dennis community.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
