Job Description

This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven and innovative Ecommerce Manager to join the vibrant community at the University of York, a world-renowned institution celebrated for its academic excellence and research impact. As an integral part of our dynamic team, you will be instrumental in shaping and expanding the University’s digital commercial footprint. This role isn’t just about managing online stores; it’s about translating the rich tapestry of university life – from merchandise and publications to events, courses, and unique campus experiences – into compelling and commercially successful online offerings.

You will lead the strategy, development, and day-to-day operation of the University’s various e-commerce platforms, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience for our diverse audience, including students, alumni, staff, prospective students, and the wider public. This includes overseeing everything from product listings and promotions to secure payment gateways, inventory management, and efficient order fulfilment processes. Your expertise will directly contribute to enhancing revenue streams, supporting departmental initiatives, and strengthening the University’s brand presence in the digital realm, making a tangible difference to our overall institutional success and outreach.

We are looking for a proactive individual with a deep understanding of e-commerce best practices, digital marketing trends, SEO, analytics, and conversion rate optimization. You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across academic departments, marketing, IT, and finance to identify opportunities for growth, implement new features, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure our online commercial activities align seamlessly with the University’s broader strategic objectives and brand guidelines. This collaborative spirit is crucial for success within our complex and diverse organizational structure.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen analytical mind, capable of interpreting data to drive informed decisions and continuously improve platform performance. You will also be responsible for monitoring market trends and competitor activities to ensure the University remains at the forefront of digital commercial engagement. The University of York fosters an environment of continuous learning and innovation, making this a unique opportunity to apply sophisticated commercial acumen within a purpose-driven, intellectually stimulating setting. If you’re passionate about digital commerce, eager to leverage technology for institutional advancement, and ready to make a significant impact within a prestigious educational institution, we encourage you to apply. This role requires an individual who is fluent in English, capable of clear and concise communication with various stakeholders, and adept at navigating a multicultural and dynamic environment.
