Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our team, focusing on supporting students within the Penticton area. This pivotal role involves working directly with students across various age groups and developmental stages, identifying and addressing their unique needs to enhance their participation and performance in school-related activities. You will play a crucial role in empowering students to overcome challenges, improve fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and executive function, enabling them to engage more effectively in learning and social environments.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will collaborate closely with educators, parents, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized intervention plans. This includes conducting comprehensive assessments, designing therapeutic activities, recommending adaptive equipment, and providing consultation services to create inclusive and supportive school settings. Your expertise will not only benefit students directly through one-on-one and group therapy but also contribute to a broader school-wide understanding of sensory and motor development, fostering a more accommodating and engaging educational experience for all. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for students referred due to concerns with fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual motor integration, sensory processing, self-regulation, and executive function.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans (IIPs) based on assessment findings, student needs, and educational goals.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy services to students, individually and in groups, within school settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff to integrate therapeutic strategies into daily routines and academic instruction.
  • Recommend and facilitate the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications to enhance student participation.
  • Educate and train school personnel and families on occupational therapy strategies and techniques.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to student support plans and IEPs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in pediatric occupational therapy through continuous professional development.

Required Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in a pediatric or school-based setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, sensory integration, motor learning, and executive function.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and develop evidence-based intervention plans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a diverse caseload.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for travel between school sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with diverse student populations and learning needs.
  • Familiarity with the BC school system and special education frameworks.
  • Additional training or certification in specific pediatric therapy approaches (e.g., Ayres Sensory Integration, Zones of Regulation).
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records or student information systems.
