Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and dedicated Full-Time ICU Nurse to join our critical care team in Snelgrove, Brampton. This pivotal role involves providing advanced nursing care to critically ill patients who require intensive monitoring, specialized interventions, and life support. Our Intensive Care Unit is equipped with cutting-edge technology, supporting a wide range of critical cases, including post-surgical recovery, trauma, cardiac events, respiratory failure, and severe infections. You will work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic and patient-centred care. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive and ongoing assessments of critically ill patients, including vital signs, neurological status, cardiac rhythms, respiratory function, and pain levels.
- Administer medications safely and accurately, including vasoactive drugs, sedatives, and antibiotics, and manage complex intravenous infusions.
- Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and arterial lines.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, adjusting as patient conditions evolve.
- Provide advanced wound care, manage drains, and assist with complex medical procedures.
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies, initiating life-saving interventions and participating in code blue scenarios.
- Educate patients and their families about treatment plans, procedures, and disease progression, offering emotional support and clear communication.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records, documenting all assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Collaborate proactively with physicians, specialists, and other allied health professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, adhering to all infection control protocols and safety standards.
Required Skills
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage stressful situations effectively.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Critical Care Nursing Certificate (e.g., CNA certification in Critical Care).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable to patient population).
- Experience with specialized critical care units (e.g., Cardiac ICU, Neuro ICU).
- Membership in professional nursing organizations (e.g., RNAO, AACN).
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
