Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Airport Operations Manager to oversee all facets of daily airport functions in Doon, Kitchener. This critical role is integral to maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across the facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating a wide array of operational activities, from runway and airfield management to terminal operations, ground handling, and emergency response planning. You will lead and mentor a diverse team, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements set by Transport Canada and other relevant aviation authorities. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all daily airport operations, including airside, landside, and terminal facilities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all aviation safety regulations, security protocols, and environmental standards.
  • Develop, implement, and refine operational procedures to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Lead, train, and manage a team of operations staff, fostering a high-performance and safety-conscious culture.
  • Coordinate with airlines, air traffic control, ground handlers, and other stakeholders for smooth operations.
  • Manage and respond to airport emergencies, incidents, and irregular operations, including severe weather and security threats.
  • Conduct regular inspections of airport infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, and aprons, identifying maintenance needs.
  • Monitor operational performance metrics, prepare reports, and present findings to senior management.
  • Assist in the development and management of the operational budget, ensuring cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning for airport development and expansion projects.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in airport operations management or a similar aviation leadership role.
  • Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada regulations (CARs), ICAO standards, and other relevant aviation policies.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities, with a focus on staff development and motivation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in operational software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by operational demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Accreditation as an Airport Executive (AAE) or Certified Member (CM) through AAAE/IAAE.
  • Experience with airport security programs (e.g., AVSEC) and emergency response planning.
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems in an airport context.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) or experience in managing operational projects.
