Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive geotechnical site investigations, including drilling oversight, logging of soil and rock borings, and field testing.
- Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, settlement analysis, bearing capacity, and liquefaction potential.
- Design shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, earthwork, and ground improvement systems.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical engineering reports, proposals, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Provide construction observation and inspection services for geotechnical aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, structural engineers, and clients to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project designs.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to ensure timely and cost-efficient project delivery.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, effectively communicating technical information and recommendations.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to the professional development of the engineering team.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and relevant regulations and codes.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical specialization.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maine, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GRLWEAP, LPile, Slope/W, Seep/W).
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geological principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Experience with CADD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Familiarity with local geology and construction practices in Maine.
- Experience in risk assessment and mitigation strategies for geotechnical projects.
